TL;DR
Google has launched free SAT practice tests through Gemini, partnering with The Princeton Review for rigorously vetted content. The AI assistant will provide personalised feedback, identify knowledge gaps and create customised study plans.
Democratising Test Preparation
Google is expanding Gemini’s educational capabilities with full-length, on-demand SAT practice exams available directly in the chatbot for free. The company has partnered with The Princeton Review to ensure tests use “rigorously vetted content from leading education companies.”
Students can access the tests simply by telling Gemini, “I want to take a practice SAT test.” After completing a test, Gemini provides feedback on areas of strength and topics needing more attention, then helps create customised study plans.
“By helping you identify specific knowledge gaps, Gemini empowers you to turn those insights into action,” Google said, noting that students can also ask the chatbot to explain test answers.
Khan Academy Integration
Alongside the SAT feature, Google announced that Gemini will power Khan Academy’s Writing Coach. The tool breaks writing into four steps: understanding, outlining, drafting and revising. Teachers can choose between feedback-only mode or a more interactive experience.
Khan Academy has positioned the Writing Coach as a support tool rather than an automation system, addressing concerns that AI might hinder critical thinking development. The tool is available for seventh to twelfth graders in the US.
A Gemini-powered Reading Coach will launch later this year, offering customised reading comprehension experiences with insights for teachers on student performance.
Free Updates for Educators
Google is expanding Gemini access in Gmail, Docs, Slides, Forms, Vids and Sheets across Google Workspace for Education core editions at no additional cost. These updates will roll out in the coming weeks for users over 18.
Looking Forward
For UK educators and organisations, these developments signal continued investment in AI-powered educational tools. While the SAT is US-specific, the underlying approach of AI-assisted learning with human oversight offers a model for responsible educational technology deployment.
