TL;DR

Tesla has begun rolling out Grok AI integration in its European vehicles, starting with nine countries including the UK and Ireland. The feature lets drivers use voice commands to get real-time information and control navigation without touching the screen, delivered via over-the-air software update 2026.2.6.

What Grok does in your Tesla

The integration brings xAI’s Grok chatbot directly into the Tesla in-car experience. Drivers can speak to Grok hands-free to ask questions, search for destinations, and issue navigation commands — all without interacting with the touchscreen.

The initial rollout covers the UK, Ireland, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, France, Portugal, and Spain, with more European countries expected to follow.

Hardware and connectivity requirements

Not all Teslas are eligible. The integration requires an AMD Ryzen infotainment processor, which limits it to Model S (2021+), Model 3 (mid-2021+), Model X (2021+), Model Y (2021+), and Cybertruck. Owners also need either Premium Connectivity or a stable WiFi connection.

On privacy, Tesla says interactions with Grok are processed by xAI in line with its privacy notice, while conversations remain anonymous to Tesla and are not linked to the driver or vehicle.

Looking forward

The rollout marks xAI’s first major consumer-facing deployment in European vehicles, adding another AI assistant to the growing list of in-car options alongside Google’s built-in assistant and Apple CarPlay’s Siri. For UK Tesla owners, it represents the first taste of Grok beyond the X (formerly Twitter) platform where it originally launched.
